Kualoa Ranch has so many awesome activities to do and so many amazing things to see. This is a must visit for families on Oahu! The Ranch spans over 4,000 acres, and has astonishing views of some of the most magnificent mountains and valleys, as well as views of the bluest ocean waters.
On our first visit, we decided to explore the ranch and take their movie sites tour. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and transports you across the ranch with several stops along the way. The first stop was an old bunker that has been transformed into a small museum where props from movies and shows filmed on the ranch are now stored.
After leaving the museum, we explored more of the ranch and learned about the history of the private nature reserve. The reserve serves as a working cattle ranch with more than 600 head of cattle, 120 horses and 200 sheep, as well as a large number of wild boar.
The property has two major areas: the northern half which includes "JURASSIC VALLEY" (Ka'a'awa Valley), and the southern half that includes the Hakipu'u Valley Rainforest. Here we drove by an 800-year old ancient Hawaiian fishpond (Moli'i), as well as several crop farms.
We finally ventured on to the Jurassic Valley where over 70 movies and several TV shows have been filmed since the 1950's. Some of the Blockbuster movies and TV shows filmed in the valley include: Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, 50 First Dates, Mighty Joe Young, Jumanji, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, Jumanji The Next Level, Kong Skull Island, Windtalkers, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla, Tears of the Sun, Triple Frontier, Hawaii Five-O, LOST, and Magnum P.I.
It was such a unique experience to see the various film and TV show sites, as well as explore such beautiful areas and learn about the ranch. We will definitely be back to try their ATV and horseback riding tours, as well as explore secret island!
