Hiking The Likeke Falls Trail On Oahu, Hawaii- Adventures On The Move

Likeke Falls Trail in Hawaii, is a two-tiered waterfall that sits below the Pali Lookout. This trail is an excellent option for families with young children or those looking for a shorter hike leading to one of many waterfalls on Oahu.

There are two ways to reach the falls. Those looking for a lengthier, more adventurous option can hike down the Old Pali Highway from the Pali Lookout to reach the falls; this route will take about an hour and a half.

Those looking for a less strenuous and more kid-friendly hiking route can access the falls by starting at the bottom of what used to be the Ko'Olau Golf Club; we opted to hike this route. The shorter trail is a 0.8 mile hike and is an excellent option for a quick and easy visit to the falls.

Getting There

The Ko'Olau Golf Club has recently closed and is now a Presbyterian church. Street parking is available outside of the church gate; be sure to park completely off the road to avoid a ticket. Once parked, head towards a gate to the left of the church gate. (There are several "No Trespassing" signs, so please hike at your discretion). After passing the first gate, there will be another fence and a small opening in the brush to the right of the fence. This small opening is a path that will bypass the fence and lead onto the Old Pali Road.

After a short walk up the Old Pali Road, you will approach a bridge; off to the right, there is a small path; enter here. We promise this short hiking path will lead to a large parking lot and the Likeke Falls Trailhead. This trail shows off some of Hawaii's Rainforest Terrains, unique trees, and of course, a beautiful waterfall. We recommend bringing bug spray and a small towel if planning to play in the water at the falls.

If you are interested in another incredible hike in Hawaii, continue on the Old Pali Road to the Pali Lookout from the bridge location.

Our Hiking Adventure

Once our family made it to the Likeke Falls trailhead, it was a quick and straightforward hike to the falls. Navigating over and around various tree roots and lush tree arches made for a fun family hiking adventure! Along the hike, we passed a large water reservoir with colorful graffiti art, be sure to stay to the left here and follow the remainder of the trail to the falls.

The falls do not offer much of a swimming hole, but our kids had a blast sticking their feet in and exploring along the rocks nearby. The quiet area surrounding the falls is a great place to sit and enjoy nature!

This trail is a great family-friendly hike for all ages! If short on time or just looking for a quick, easy afternoon hike, we highly recommend checking out Likeke Falls Trail!
